Superbike Concepts

Sak_Art Design Consulting Studio is one of those establishments that a hardcore superbike gearhead dreams about working at. Based in Cascina, Italy (naturally) Sak_Art dreams up stylish concepts to be implemented into motorcycle manufacturing.

The studio is devoted to the styling, aerodynamics, and functionality demanded by superbike design and their creations are intended to move racing engineering forward. Thus far they seem to be invested purely in paper with no real motorcycles rolling out of their workshop as of yet.

The studio's latest concept is the SHAKTI (which translates roughly to; sacred force or empowerment). The Shakti is a superbike concept that Sak_Art desires to use as their calling card in the motorcycle design world.

They are hoping their concept will be embraced by a major motorcycle manufacturer with the idea of transforming the machine into reality and getting it onto a track.

The Shakti starts with an in-line three-cylinder 1000cc powerplant-which would make it unique in the class. Sak_Art wraps the engine with a carbon "ribbon" which is their styling brand, so to speak.

The design cues are intended to carry through from the tail section (with its distinctive three exhaust tips), through the middle, and into the beak nose of the fairing and bodywork. At the front is an air induct that accentuates a diamond headlight.

Sak_Art claims to take its design cues from the MotoGP bikes in the Yamaha and Ducati garages, providing a full "Corsa" World Superbike version with racing livery, modified seat, suspension, wheels and full carbon fiber bodywork.

It's anybody's guess what kind of traction Sak_Art will attain, but it's fun to see some creative drawings and PhotoShop renderings of their various dream machines, especially the "Legends Editions."

These custom liveries are the "Freddie," inspired by Freddie Spencer's 1983 Honda NS 500. The "Kenny," which pays tribute to King Kenny Roberts' 1978 Yamaha YZR 500 OW 35. And finally, the "Barry," honoring the great Barry Sheene and his famous number 7, 1978 Suzuki RG 500.

Despite the relative long shot a company has in entering the demanding, take no prisoners environs of racing (especially from a design perspective) it's always refreshing to see that the spirit of Don Quixote is alive and well, inspiring others to tilt at windmills.

We'll keep you updated on Sak_Art and their progress in bringing these unusual design concepts to fruition.

Custom Bikes

There is anticipation in the motorcycling world for the presentation of the CR&S DUU, the new motorcycle from the Milanese workshops headed by Roberto Crepaldi, at the 69th Salone Internazionale del Ciclo e del Motociclo (International Motorcycle and Bicycle Salon) to be held from 2nd to 7th November at the Fiera di Milano.

The motorcycle will be presented in Pavilion 2, stand I 33.

Following the success of the concept motorcycle which appeared for the first time at the EICMA 2009, the curtain is now being raison on the "single-seater" and "two-seater" road versions of the techno-custom bike, made by hand and only made to measure, which pays tribute to the glorious mechanical tradition of the Lombard capital.

The concept of the CR&S DUU motorcycle, which is stated to enter production next year, was unanimously acclaimed by the public, critics and motorcycling press. The entire production for 2011 has already been booked, with over 130 reservations made.

The original design shows the bike's muscles, highlighting the new, powerful American two-litre X-Wedge "V-Twin" engine by S&S, mounted on a sporty chassis of European form, and it reflects the capacity to effect a perfect synthesis of the best of Western motorcycle traditions.

These characteristics have enabled the CR&S DUU to win a place at the MAD-Moto Arte Design, as being one of the motorcycle masterpieces of the past 50 years.

The press - and not just the trade press - has also been extremely flattering, contributing to the expectations of a motorcycle that in terms of technology and appearance anticipates the new trends.

With its eyes firmly on the future, but without renouncing tradition and the added value of craftsmanship.

All CR&S motorcycles are unique pieces assembled by hand and made to measure like tailored suits for demanding and hedonistic motorcyclists.

"We want to apply to the field of motorbikes what already occurs in the sector of prestige cars, in which customisation is optimised during assembly. Today, the biker has to buy his motorbike the way it is, except for some few variants, and then personalise it as he wishes."

The founder explains, "we, instead, give the client the possibility of ‘building' his bike with us, following every phase of the construction process from the order onwards, and the continuing also with after-sales updates."

With the DUU, CR&S has broadened its potential target and is preparing to conquer the European market. On top of consolidating its presence in Italy, Germany and France, which constitute the largest markets in Europe, CR&S is also aiming at North America, and there are also good prospects for growth in Australia, Japan and the Far East.

"There are no direct competitors", continues the founder and sole administrator of CR&S. "There are and have also been in the past some solutions that are in some way similar to the DUU, but the overall concept and the originality of the project create a sector that is all on its own".

The CR&S DUU Concept Motorcycle

Two seats, two cylinders, two litres. The CR&S DUU ("two" in Milanese dialect) is a naked-techno-custom at the top of the Premium sector, providing a perfect combination of Western motorcycling traditions and enabling an entertaining and intuitive ride.

Power and agility are combined in a bike with an American engine and European form, designed for two-wheeling aesthetes and experts who like to open the throttle on US straights without having to give up the thrill of tackling the bends of the Old Continent.

A motorbike with a strong emotive charge, which lays bare its soul and shows its muscles. The frame made by CR&S, with a large cross-section "backbone" tubular structure, does not cover the engine but frames it, highlighting an unusual engine, the 1916 cc X-Wedge, made for the 50th anniversary of S&S, a leading US company in special parts for engines and makers of twin-cylinders "V"s.

Like all the CR&S, each DUU is unique, assembled by hand and made to measure like a tailored suit: starting with the standard version, it is possible to choose from an infinite range of technical and aesthetic variants.

The DUU is also modular: the basic module can be configured in a different way according to the requirements of the owner, while maintaining the aesthetic and functional features of the project.

CR&S - Founded in 1992 - with the aim of promoting sports motorcycles of the 1960s and 1970s (Cafè Racers) and their current descendants (Superbikes), is today the only manufacturer of road bikes in Milan to continue the mechanical tradition in the Lombard region.

YZF-R15 One Make Race Championship – Season 2010 inches closer to culmination

Chennai, December 2nd, 2010: After successfully zooming through four rounds of R15 One Make Race Championship, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. is set to organize the fifth & final round of the championship. The final round of 5 leg championship, organized as part of SIDVIN-FMSCI National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2010, will be held on 4th and 5th December at Madras Motor Race Track in Sriperumbudur. This year, Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship was open to participation from both Yamaha and Non-Yamaha customers.
Riding on Yamaha’s Super Sports YZF-R15, the contestants experienced the breathtaking acceleration of the bikes on a race circuit. Loaded with true Yamaha DNA – Performance, Innovation & Design, YZF-R15 provided complete racing experience to the biking enthusiasts and hands on feel of its riding, cornering and braking abilities. Yamaha made their experience more exciting by mounting Daytona Racing kits in the bikes. The racing kit includes Racing Exhaust system, Racing ECU (Engine Control Unit), High Lift Cam Shaft and Petal shaped large Disc. These kits are developed using valuable experience gained from MotoGP racing and are designed exclusively for racing purposes in a closed circuit.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Yutaka Terada, Director – Sales & Marketing, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. said, “All the four rounds of Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship have been very exciting. We are very happy with the level of participation and responses from our customers. Our mission is to revolutionize the biking culture in India by giving Indian youth an exposure of international level racing competition and we commit to continue to organize more such racing events in the future.”
Two riders (One from each Class: NOVICE & EXPERT) will be given a chance to participate in the “YAMAHA ASEAN CUP RACE” to be held in Malaysia later this month. The riders can further get a chance to compete in “ASIA ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 600cc Class” based on their performance in Yamaha ASEAN Cup Race-2010. Rider selected based on his results in the ASIA ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 600cc Class can make his Life Time Dream come true as he could get a chance to participate in the Grand Prix.
The technology in YZF-R15 has percolated from YZF-R1 (Deltabox frame/ Fuel Injection/ 6 speed gearbox/ styling/ Liquid Cooled 4V engine). Just like R1, it is light weight, has power on demand, besides having centralized mass, stopping power, aerodynamics, ergonomics and stability/rigidity. It also has the controllability and maneuverability to maximize riding/ cornering/ braking performance.
Yamaha’s corporate culture has always given special importance to Motorsports as a way of expressing the ‘Spirit of challenge’ the company values so highly. R15 One Make Race is one of the biggest initiatives by Yamaha to take racing culture to new heights in India and has proved to be very successful in its objective. Carrying forward the racing legacy, Yamaha aims to take the racing culture and spirit in India to the next level.

European Custom Motorcycles

The Kawasaki Z1000 was introduced on the market back in 1977. And now, the German customizer Warm Up now launches the WARM UP Edition EST. 1977, based on the current Kawasaki Z 1000.

It is designed to be a tribute to the birth of the first 1000 cc superbike. The streetfighter fascinates with its spectacular 240 rear tire, its extraordinary WARM UP Z1000 EST. 1977 decal kit and many exclusive details such as the Akrapovic sports exhaust, the LED micro direction indicators integrated into the rear seat/tail unit and the stainless steel made WARM UP license-plate bracket.

WARM UP offers the Z1000 Edition EST. 1977 bike for a retail price of 14,999 Euros. Of course all components are also available on a single base.

While the 138 hp four cylinder engine remains standard with exception of the Akrapovic sport exhaust system, the modifications, which turn the standard motorcycle into the Warm Up Edition EST. 1977, are equally extensive and exclusive.

The ultra-wide Metzeler 240/40 R 18 rear tire, which perfectly uses the room inside the standard swingarm mounted on a 8.25-inch wide rim, attracts the attention at first sight.

Matching the rear wheel the standard front rim is also refined in a combination of a polished well and a black center-piece.

The suspension remains standard but can be upgraded with high precision bearings for an additional price. This modification makes the handling of the Z1000 even more agile and exact.

Another eyecatcher is the new Warm Up EST. 1977 decal kit. The tailor-made white, green and black elements make the striking design of the current Z1000 even more outrageous.

This kit is also available on a single base for a retail price of 199 Euros. In addition there is available the Warm Up wheel decal kit which is offered for 21 Euros.

The pure-bred streetfighter is of course also shod with a wide and flat handlebar. The Z1000 of the Warm Up Edition EST. 1977 is additionally furnished with aluminium-made handlebar stash caps, adjustable levers, low-mounted rear-view mirrors and ABM S-Grip grips.

Further exclusive features are the aluminium brake fluid reservoir for the rear brake, the detachable passenger seat cover, crash-pads and the Warm Up license-plate bracket made from stainless steel which includes a LED license-plate light. This filigrane part replaces the bulky rear end of the standard Z1000.

2010 Buell Lightning XB12Scg | Last Buell Built | motorsport modification | motor bikes costume

Click the images below for bigger versions:

The Last Buell

The reality of Harley-Davidson's decision to end production of the Buell models has finally come to a head. Buell, the only American sport bike company, will no longer produce motorcycles. On October 30 of 2010, the final Buell ever (a Buell Lightning XB12Scg) rolled off the company's East Troy Wisconsin assembly line.

The 2010 Buell Lightning XB12Scg is the last of the 136,923 motorcycles built in the company's 26 years of operation. Harley-Davidson's announcement on October 15 that the Buell lineup of motorcycles would be discontinued effective December 18, 2009 has hit home with the factory workers in East Troy and the enthusiast from around the world. It is a sad moment for all.

Buell motorcycles will continue to be sold through existing dealers until inventory is depleted. It is our understanding that many of the dealers are offering outrageous deals; so if you are interested in owning a piece of American history, call around today. All new Buells will be sold with a 2-year warranty and the Motor Company has committed to providing spare parts for at least the next 7 years.

About the Buell Lightning XB12Scg (Compliments of Buell)

The XB12Scg features a lowered suspension and seat for a lower center of gravity and a shorter reach to the ground with no compromise to handling or performance. Streetfighter styling and potent American V-Twin power keeps the aggression mean and low.

Buell Lightning models and the new 1125CR are at the core of what Buell is all about - pure performance with a broad, seamless power delivery in a stripped down, raw and aggressive package.

Each Buell model is designed utilizing the Buell Trilogy of Technology - chassis rigidity, centralized mass, and low unsprung weight - to produce a motorcycle which responds instantly to rider input.
